Performance anxiety is not limited to the bedroom. It’s everywhere and in everything. When I was first married, I had performance anxiety with my mother-in-law about cooking. She’d always ask me what I was fixing for dinner. It was not even in my head, making me sure I was a bad wife. So sure I was never going to be enough, I compared my inexperience to her expertise. Comparisons did not enhance my self-image, or my relationship with her. I don’t blame her. I used her to diminish myself.
